Legendary designer Philippe Stark recently presented the prototype of the Pibal, his urban bike, in Bordeaux.
This future bike will, in the long term, replace the entire fleet of 3,500 municipal bicycles available for use by residents of Bordeaux.
The design is revolutionary, incorporating a platform that will enable the Pibal to be ridden like a scooter in congested pedestrian zones. Produced by Peugeot in France, the bike’s frame will be in aluminium so that it can meet users’ demands for a light bike. It will weigh 16kg.
‘I didn’t want to make something that looked good but was useless. I wanted to create a tool that meets the expectations of the Bordeaux community. I have been in Bordeaux for a quarter of a century, and it is the most pleasant city in the world! I wanted to create something for my people.” It should be noted that Philippe Starck worked on this project for free.
