Founded in 2012 in La Rochelle, Lumo, the crowdfunding platform for renewable energy projects, relocates its headquarters to Bordeaux.
Supported by Invest in Bordeaux during its property search and its integration into the local economical networks, the start-up is currently in its 2nd development phase, raising €400,000 and strengthening its team.
LUMO, the French crowdfunding pioneer in renewable energy
Thanks to state support, renewable energy crowdfunding is growing in France.
Lumo is a young company with majority ownership by its management team, and is investing in solar, wind, or hydroelectrical energy projects. The startup boasts skills in responsible finance, renewable energy and raising awareness of ecological transition to allow citizens to invest in sustainable development projects.
Lumo currently has a 4000-strong community of ‘Lumonauts’.
€3M has been collected for 30 projects focusing on 3 energy types (sun, water and wind). They will produce more than 190 million kWh of green electricity each year, equivalent to the total energy consumption of 70,000 homes.
Lumo has already raised €400,000 alongside investors, finance, and energy professionals to support its development.
A decision guided by Bordeaux’s economic dynamism
Nouvelle Aquitaine is one of the most active regions in renewable energy development. This has reinforced Lumo’s decision to relocate its new headquarters to the region, specifically Bordeaux, while still having an office in Paris.
At the heart of the digital ecosystem, Bordeaux is also an employment area rich in skills sought by Lumo and will be directly accessible to Paris with the future high-speed railway.
In the coming weeks, its administration headquarters will move to Darwin, the Bordeaux incubator committed to the energy transition.
The immediate objective is to recruit a communication and marketing manager and a user support and relations manager.
