The Avril group inaugurated a new bottling and packaging plant for Lesieur vegetable oils in Bassens (Gironde), a unique industrial operation at the cutting edge of technology.
The Group has brought together on the same site the activities of its Saipol subsidiary – established in Bassens since 1979 – and its Lesieur subsidiary – previously based in the Bacalan district of Bordeaux.
The result is a high-tech agrifood center located in south-west France, combining all of the group’s activities, from the seeds to the bottles of oil.
A historic investment for Lesieur
At €31 million, this is a historic investment for the Avril Group and also for their subsidiary, Lesieur, bringing the total amount of investment in the site since 2006 to more than €150 million, for the development and diversification of their industrial activity.
“It’s almost a hundred years since Lesieur last built a new bottling and packaging plant for vegetable oils”, commented Jean-Philippe PUIG, Manager of Avril SCA.
“Today, Avril is launching its first sector-specific site in France, a perfect illustration of our model, combining the upstream agricultural sector with the downstream industrial sector, from the seeds to the consumer.
This is a historic event for us, and shows that industrial investment in France is a reality.”
A high-tech agrifood center in the south-west, the first sector-specific site for Avril
This integrated agrifood center, encompassing everything from the seeds to the bottle of oil, incorporates all of Avril’s activities in crop production – from crushing the rapeseed and sunflower seeds, to unpackaged food (meal, vegetable oils) or packaged products (Lesieur vegetable oils), and including renewable energies (Diester biodiesel) and renewable chemistry (vegetable glycerin).
The inauguration of the new Lesieur plant gives the site a production capacity of 100 million liters of bottled oil per year (Frial, Fruit d’Or, Lesieur Cœur de Tournesol and ISIO 4).
This advanced industrial facility is capable of bottling and packaging 1,800 to 20,000 bottles per hour, depending on the format.
The refined oil required for making the finished products is produced directly by Saipol’s refining installation, which is now located on-site.
Avril’s new agrifood center in the south-west has 200 staff, including 94 employees at the new Lesieur plant.
