The first stone of the future Neurocampus, a real bridgehead in the combat against disorders of the brain, was officially laid at the Carreire site in the hospital-university site in Bordeaux.
The launch of the 13,000m2 building project, which will be delivered in 2016, will enable Bordeaux to establish itself as an international benchmark centre in the field of neurosciences and boost its economic appeal.
The Neurocampus, which represents an investment of €65m, partly funded by the Region of Aquitaine, will be home to the Institut Interdisciplinaire des Neurosciences (IIN) and the Institut de Maladies Neurodégénératives(IMN) and to part of the Bordeaux Imaging Centre (BIC).
With the Magendie Neurocentre already in place, a 25,000 m2 centre, with 450 researchers, will be dedicated to neurosciences. It will be open to the world of business, and will welcome start-ups in the medical field.
The European Community has also chosen Bordeaux as the location for the Ecole Européenne de Neuroscience.
