Dassault has announced the sale of 36 Rafale planes to India, along with the 24 sold to Egypt, resulting in substantial benefits in terms of both employment and investment for the aeronautical establishments in the Aquitaine region.
The first to benefit would be the 3 Dassault sites in the region: the Dassault factory in Mérignac (1300 jobs), where the fighter plane is assembled, the one in Martignas-sur-Jalle which makes the carbon fiber wings, and the site in Biarritz tasked with the rear section and the tail assembly.
It is also in Aquitaine that 250 Rafale contract manufacturers are located, including the 2 Thales factories for avionics.
Several hundred direct and indirect jobs should be created in Aquitaine, according to experts.
And it is no coincidence that Thalès, Dassault and Safran are investing even more in Gironde by creating a new, ultra-modern Air’Innov campus and a maintenance workshop for business aircraft.
Great efforts have also been put into employee training with the development of the Aerocampus Aquitaine and the new campus for the aeronautical professions.
