Florian Gaultier, a young Bordeaux resident passionate about IT and Security Engineer with SCRT, alongside his team “0daysober”, have qualified for the final of the internationally renowned IT security competition DEFCON .
Since June 1993, DEFCON in Las Vegas has brought together numerous actors in the international hacking scene. As well as various conferences on the subject, a competition called Capture The Flag has been organized every year since 1996, and in a more official way since 2002.
Not legally able to train using real targets, IT security fans challenge themselves on programs that have been especially designed for the event.
This year, the 23rd edition of the competition, the 15 qualifying teams from all over the world battled it out for three days on programs developed by the “LegitBS” team.
The participants had to find weaknesses, correct them in their machines and exploit them among their adversaries in order to steal precious Flags (symbols of compromised confidential data).
At the end of this IT battle “0daysober”, the French team, finished 3rd just behind the Americans (PPP) and the Koreans (DEFKOR).
Back in Bordeaux Florian Gaultier is working as a security engineer for SCRT, which specializes in IT systems security. The Swiss company has been based in Bordeaux since February 2015 and is supported by Bordeaux Gironde Investissement.
Florian Gaultier carries out intrusion tests for his clients in order to discover the weaknesses in real systems.
He is also the joint organizer of a similar local event, the Sthack (www.sthack.fr), which is being planned for the 6th time.
