Bordeaux confirms its position as a European center for hosting international congresses.
According the most recent 2015 classification by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) worldwide ranking, Bordeaux has climbed to 4th position for French cities after Paris, Nice et Lyon-St Etienne and is also placed in the TOP world 100.
Progress on a European and global scale
This annual ranking of cities, which is recognized by professionals all around the world demonstrates Bordeaux’ progress: in 10 years, it has climbed from 106th European city to 50th, and 208th world city to 93rd!
According to the Bordeaux Convention Bureau, 28 mobile congresses were evaluated for the 2015 ranking, including major congresses which are key events in their sector on an international scale.
Among those events we can cite, The 22nd Intelligent Transport Systems World Congress, which gathered 13,000 participants in October 2015, 3500 delegates, 300 conferences, 25,000 m² of exhibition space…
This congress enabled Bordeaux to enhance its expertise in the ITS sector on an international level and to become an influential benchmark on the issue of sustainable mobility.
It also qualifies Bordeaux as a must-see French Smart City.
Bordeaux Métropole, a fast-growing destination for business tourism
Bordeaux and its region are riding high, becoming increasingly attractive thanks to a multitude of major projects (Matmut Atlantique Stadium, LGV, Cité du vin, extension of the tramway…).
On the horizon for 2018, Bordeaux will offer new infrastructures for business tourism:
La Cité du Vin, which opens its doors next month, will also be a venue for organizing conferences and seminars.
Several rooms at the site can be privatized for events: the 250 seat auditorium, modular reception rooms (anywhere from 130 to 250 people), etc.
- As from 2018, Bordeaux will be in a position to host large –scale conventions and congressesthanks to the upgrading of the Parc des Expositions which will begin mid-2016 and will propose a new multi-functional hall.
- “In the years to come, we will continue to put all our energy into positioning Bordeaux in the top three French host cities for congresses”, said Eric Dulong, Chairman of Congrès et Expositions de Bordeaux (CEB) during the General Assembly on April 28.
