There will therefore be no delays for this brand new line consisting of 302km and costing 7.8 billion Euros, which will shorten the journey time to just 2 hours 5 minutes between Bordeaux and Paris from over 3 hours at present.
The Tours-Bordeaux high-speed line has already had an impact on the regional economy. 1,080 people are currently working on the construction site in Gironde. 287 were recruited locally. Last summer, 420 businesses in Aquitaine were working on this project. To these businesses it is a significant financial windfall, to the tune of 223 million Euros.
It’s the first phase of a wider initiative which will be extended to Toulouse, and then Spain. The aim is to make Aquitaine a European hub.
