Biotechnology specialist Fermentalg is creating an industrial unit
Having successfully raised more than €40 million on the stock market, Fermentalg, specialising in the production of oils and proteins from microalgae, has filed for a building permit to develop a new industrial unit in Libourne (creating 30 jobs).
Boiron develops its Bordeaux site
BOIRON Laboratories, a world leader in homeopathic medicines has moved its Bordeaux premises to cope with an increase in its production capacity and distribution. The Bordeaux factory supplies 950 dispensing pharmacies.
Implanet is expanding internationally
Gironde company Implanet (33 people), specialised in the manufacture and marketing of medical implants (knee, spine) and arthroscopy equipment, and recently listed on the stock exchange, has signed 7 new distribution agreements with the USA. The increase is due to the success of the Jazz implant.
World-first research
The IHU lays the first stone
Bordeaux is seeking to become a world reference in cardiology and has taken one step closer to excellence with the laying of the first stone of the University Hospital Institute (IHU) on the Xavier-Arnozan site of Bordeaux University Hospital.
The IHU, Institute of Rhythmology and Heart Modelling, supported by Bordeaux University and the University Hospital, and a national winner of the Future Investments Programme, is guaranteed to attract researchers and doctors from worldwide.
2 innovative start-ups: Aelis Pharma and LNC
Aelis Farma, a young Bordeaux biotechnology company created in 2013, has raised €1.3 million from INSERM Transfer Initiatives and the Aqui Invest and Aquitaine Création Investissement (ACI) regional funds to develop derivatives of a molecule produced by the brain, Pregnenolone, for a treatment to counter Cannabis addiction.
World Première: LNC, a young Bordeaux start-up at the forefront of the fight against obesity and diabetes, has developed a range of comprehensive care for these conditions which are huge health and financial issues across the world.
Aquitaine, pioneer of the silver economy

Biotech week in Bordeaux
A report has been made as part of “Biotech Week” in Bordeaux, an opportunity to discover the specialities of the sector. This is a great showcase of the expertise in Bordeaux and Gironde with the approach of Bordeaux Gironde Investissement’s visit to the San Diego Organic Show at the end of June.
