Founded in Florida in 1985, Exactech, a company specialised in orthopaedic prostheses, has decided to regroup its Lille and Strasbourg-based units on a single site in Bordeaux.
The American company intends to develop the French subsidiary from Bordeaux by a three- or four-fold increase in turnover over three years. It plans to create 20 to 40 jobs between now and 2021.
New organisation of the French subsidiary
Exactech Inc designs, manufactures and sells implants for orthopaedic surgery, arthritis-related illness and traumatology (artificial joints, e.g. hips) in more than 35 countries worldwide.
Exactech France has been the French subsidiary of Exactech Inc. since 2012. Its customers include surgical clinics and hospitals in France, and orthopaedic surgeons are its end-users. It deals with surgeons, theatre managers and sterilisation units, pharmacists and healthcare institution managers.
The project to locate in Bordeaux is the result of a re-structuring of the French subsidiary and the merging of its two units based in Lille (sales and marketing departments) and Strasbourg (administration, logistics and management), in order to optimise operations and improve efficiency.
Location in Mérignac, near the Sports Clinic
The presence of the Sports Clinic, as an International Reference Centre for surgery to the shoulder, has played a major role in this decision. This clinic has welcomed hundreds of surgeons from around the world for training in navigational surgery of the shoulder and implant surgery.
The close proximity of Bordeaux (2hrs) to the key business hubs of Toulouse and Paris, in addition to national and international transport facilities were also deciding factors in the company’s choice.
Lastly, the quality of life and attractiveness of the city was a convincing argument for staff and families to move.
