According to a recent study by the French agency Atout France, the wine regions of France, and especially Bordeaux, are attracting an ever-increasing number of foreign tourists, mainly from Belgium and the UK in Europe, but also wealthy Chinese visitors.
Bordeaux has become the second most popular destination after Paris and the Bordeaux tourist office alone registered almost 30,000 visits to wineries in the region in 2012, generating a turnover of 1,201934 €uros – an increase of +10.5% on the previous year.
The upcoming river cruise companies, including Viking River Tours, will give an added boost to Bordeaux tourism in 2013 and 2014.
Bordeaux wineries continue to attract foreign investors, especially from Belgium and China. In the last 10 years, 72 estates have been purchased by Chinese buyers.
