Aeronautical maintenance work is thriving in the Bordeaux region.
With 7,000 jobs already, of which 3,000 are linked to the Ministry of Defence, and 40 or so active SMEs, Aquitaine is counting on the development of this activity to secure new contracts.
The sale by Sabena Technics (workforce of 700), a Bordeaux-based specialist in Airbus A380 maintenance, of a plot of land of 10 hectares to Dassault is an illustration of the agreement that would make this SME Dassault’s subcontractor for work on Falcon aircraft.
As well as Sabena, the Bordeaux region can also rely on the industrial aeronautics workshops which repair the engines of all military aircraft and have just inaugurated the first test ground in Europe for the engine of the A400M.
Also at Bordeaux Mérignac, Simmad, an organisation of 700 people, heads up the maintenance of everything that flies in the military.
Last but not least, Aérocampus Aquitaine has become the leading specialist in training for professions in aeronautical maintenance, transmitting its concepts and knowledge across the globe.
