With the help of Bordeaux University Hospital, local start-up AXS Medical, headquartered in Le Havre, has created Biomod, a medical device offering 3D reconstruction in order to improve the treatment and monitoring of spine pathologies, whilst reducing the need for radiation.
“It is in Mérignac that the team of seven, most of which are graduates from the region’s grandes écoles, develops our innovations”, explains Fouad El Baroudi, co-founder of AXS Medical in 2010, alongside Kemal Bayram.
It is based on 3D visualization technology developed for the aeronautic industry by AXS Engineering that AXS Medical developed and marketed this tool, which has already convinced around thirty clinics in France, Belgium, Switzerland and North Africa.
In order to create a 3D model of the patient without exposing him or her to further radiation, AXS Medical uses its software to reconstruct the rachis in 3D from simple frontal and lateral X-rays. This is then supplemented by obtaining the spine’s relief through an optical column, which projects a non-invasive white light on the patient.
Having achieved a 430,000 euro turnover, it is aiming for 650,000 euros in 2015.
AXS Medical is also developing a new product for legs and feet.
