Just as the weekly newspaper Le Point headlined in January with “The Aeronautics industry is soaring in the Gironde”, INSEE released its annual survey of companies in Aquitaine and the Midi-Pyrénées. With 124,000 employees in the Aeronautics and Space sector, it announced that the industry was still booming.
€1 billion for the Rafale and a new assembly factory for the Falcon
A contract for a billion euros has just been signed between the French State and aircraft manufacturer Dassault, for the development of the Rafale Standard F3 R.
Approval is scheduled for 2018.
In its unit in Mérignac (Gironde), Dassault assembles a Rafale every month and 70 Falcon business jets per year.
Also on its Mérignac site, Dassault will begin construction of its 5X, the latest in the Falcon range, and for this purpose will build a new assembly plant
R&Drone monitoring waters
Hosted in the Bordeaux Technowest technology centre, this design office specialising in Robotics is riding the wave of the success of its civilian UAVs adapted for marine and land uses.
A first maritime drone prototype will be tested soon to monitor the dredging of the estuary of the Gironde river. This project, carried out on behalf of the Grand Port Maritime de Bordeaux, is supported by the Aerospace Valley competitiveness cluster.
International recognition for Aerocampus Aquitaine
The first training campus for aircraft maintenance in Europe, Aerocampus Aquitaine has been selected by the Emirate of Dubai to train maintenance technicians for the future Al Maktoum airport.
On 20 January, the Minister for National Education and the Minister Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany in charge of cultural affairs inaugurated the first Franco-German section of the Professional Baccalaureate in Aeronautics, with a Systems option, set up by the Aérocampus.
All the key players in defence aeronautics and UAV systems in Bordeaux
The 3rd edition of the ADS Show (international aeronautics and defence show) and UAV Show (drones systems) will be held on 9, 10 & 11 September 2014 at the BA 106 (Bordeaux Mérignac).
This will be an opportunity to meet the major players in these two dynamic aeronautics sectors during targeted business appointments.

Bordeaux Institut Polytechnique meets the needs of the ASD sector
A Degree in Cognitive Sciences and Human Factors Engineering has recently been created by the Institut Polytechnique in Bordeaux. This new training course focuses on design methods adapted to specific uses. The aim is to acquire interdisciplinary scientific, technological and social knowledge of the relevant aspects of the human factors applied to engineering, particularly in the fields of aeronautics, space and embedded systems.
